The AC401 version will detect baby’s slightest movements, even while she sleeps, and sound an alarm if no movement whatsoever is detected for 20 seconds. The Angelcare sensor pad with sound monitor has many added features. The nursery unit has a soft nightlight and room thermometer. The temperature is displayed on the parent’s units, which can alert you when the temperature falls out of your preset range. Additional features include an out-of-range indicator, a parent’s unit locator, optional voice activation and a color LCD on each parent’s unit which displays all the data. The parent’s unit comes with 4 AAA rechargeable batteries and a charging base. This monitor continues to offer an optional tic feature. If movement is detected, they will tick. Additional features include sound lights and movement indicator lights. The AC401 model operates on both 927 MHz and 2.4 GHz frequencies. The sound monitor operates on the 927 MHz frequency so there is no interference from 2.4 GHz equipment. The monitor has 8 channels and an 820′ range.

I am a first time mom and paranoid of all the dangers for an infant. I am terrified of SIDS. I couldn’t sleep at night because I was waking every 20 minutes to check on my baby. One night when I checked on her, she was breathing so shallow I couldn’t feel her tummy rise. I thought she had stopped breathing I panicked and shook her torso; she jumped and started to cry because I had scared her. After that she slept in my bed, but again I didn’t sleep because I was afraid of her wiggling under me. I couldn’t keep doing this to myself or my daughter. I didn’t even know they made a monitor like this until I was desperately trying to find anything that monitors breathing on Amazon. After I received the monitor, I can finally sleep again and my daughter is happy sleeping in her crib without me freaking out and waking her up.
The pad goes under the crib mattress and plugs into the main base monitor. The base monitor plugs into an outlet and blinks to show that there is breathing/any movement in the crib. It can detect the slightest movement. The listening monitor has a base that recharges itself, so I leave that part plugged into an outlet next to my night stand. The listening monitor can be set to also go off to wake me her my daughters room get too hot or too cold (you set the temperatures), and if I take the monitor too far out of range. If the main base monitor does not detect any movement for 20 seconds it will beep loud (like a fire alarm) in her room and my monitor in my room will also beep loudly and vibrate.
I did have a false alarm once. My daughter had wiggled herself all the way to the corner of her crib. Everything was fine though. I’d rather have false alarms like that then to not be woken at all.
Another great feature that this product has is on the listening monitor there is a little swigging ball. This shows that there is movement/breathing movement in her crib. I like this because sometimes I still wake up, but I can be reassured by just looking at the movement on my screen. I highly recommend this product! Thank you to whoever invented it.
I bought this monitor based on the reviews and I have to say that it is exactly what I expected. It works well, although I think the temperature is off by quite a bit. I do like that you can put the monitor on hold if you need to pick up your baby for a moment instead of having to switch it off every time. My biggest complaint (hence the 4 stars) is that it has had a couple false alarms. I don’t know why but every once in a while it will beep because it doesn’t feel her moving. It scares the jeepers out of me but I would rather be cautious and check than ignore it.
As a first time mom, who knew someone who lost a baby to SIDS, this was that best monitor I found that allowed me to have peace of mind and sleep better at night. However, at around 7 months, when my little boy started cruising his crib at night, we were getting at least 2 or 3 false alarms per night even after turning the sensitivity up the whole way and putting a piece of wood between the springs and the pad. So I called Angelcare and they asked all the normal questions, then I was asked if I have a Serta mattress, yes. They told me that they have found that a majority of people who call regarding false alarms have a Serta mattress. SO if you bought a Serta for your crib make sure you get the dual pads, if you already have a monitor you can purchase just the dual pads by calling Angelcare.
I love this monitor and I have and will continue to suggest it to everyone I know having a baby.
