  1. This sensor has worked well for us. For safety reasons it is powered only by low voltage AA batteries. The battery power is also a helpful feature if you have limited wall sockets in the room, or if you want to use the sensor on a portable crib or in a hotel.

The sensor is very sensitive. At first, our baby breathed so lightly sometimes I couldn’t be sure, but this product senses it.

However, we have had many false alarms. We have false alarms when the baby rolls near the edge of the crib or rolls to the exact spot that isn’t directly above one of the sensors! It helps if we position the sensors under the areas where the baby tends to roll or sleep, but we still have false alarms (even now that the baby is much larger) because the two sensor pads included in the box are not large enough to cover the entire area of the crib. Another source of false alarms was the connection between the sensor & alarm. Somehow (I guess after we moved something) the connection became loose. The false alarms stopped after we pulled out the wire and pushed it back in until we heard the “click.”

The instructions say that if the crib mattress is supported by springs rather than a hard surface, a board needs to be placed on the springs and the sensors on top of the board, underneath the mattress. That’s what we did. I’m not sure what to do with the portable crib. Our portable crib doesn’t provide a hard level surface under the sleeping pad. So we ordered an extra sleeping pad and placed the sensors in between the two pads. It seemed to work, and the extra sleeping pad folds so it travels well.

  2. Our daughter had reflux, which made it much more comfortable for her to sleep on her stomach. Of course we were worried about SIDS with stomach sleeping. Our doctor related that he had purchased this monitor for his own son with reflux when he decided to sleep him on his stomach. This monitor has given us great peace of mind. We have NOT had ANY false alarms. However, we know it works because it has alarmed a couple of times when we have forgotten to deactivate it when picking up our .
