Product Description

Even when you’re away from the nursery, you can rely on the SCD525 DECT Baby Monitor from Philips AVENT to keep track of your baby. With a generous operating range, advanced sound technology, a 100 percent private connection with zero interference, and a unique Talk Back feature, this monitor can keep you connected with your baby no matter where you are in the house. The DECT Baby Monitor also features a temperature display, so you know your baby is comfortable, an ECO mode for saving energy, a nightlight, and five lullabies that can help sooth your baby to sleep.

Generous Range and Superior Operating Time
With a range of 1,082 feet, the DECT Baby Monitor lets you feel close to your little one, even when you’re not in the same room. The small, lightweight, cordless parent unit with belt clip and neck cord allows you to move freely in and around your home.

The battery-operated parent unit works for up to 24 hours on an eight-hour charge. You can use the monitor’s ECO mode to lower energy consumption and reduce the transmission power of the monitor. If the power is low or if you are out of range, the parent unit will alert you.

Zero Interference and 100% Privacy Guaranteed
Because the monitor relies on the DECT frequency band and features automatic selection from among 60 channels, you can be sure its connection won’t be disrupted by other transmitting devices, such as cell phones, cordless phones, or other baby monitors. Additionally, DECT technology transmits a data-encrypted signal for completely private transmissions, so you’ll have peace of mind knowing you’re the only one who can hear your baby.

Adjustable Sound Sensitivity and Crystal-Clear Audio
The DECT Baby Monitor’s volume level and sound sensitivity is adjustable to the noise level of your environment, which means you’ll be able to hear your baby over the television, dishwasher, or lawnmower. And thanks to DECT technology, the monitor will capture every one of your baby’s gurgles, hiccups, and giggles with perfect clarity.

LEDs and Audible Alert Signal the Noise Level in Your Baby’s Room
Lights on the top of the DECT Baby Monitor’s parent unit are activated to indicate the level of sound in your baby’s room. Even when muted, the parent unit will sound an alert that notifies you when a set sound level is reached.

Electronic Sensor Tracks the Temperature of Your Nursery
Your baby can’t regulate body temperature as well as you can, and a slight change in temperature can make your baby restless. That’s why the DECT Baby Monitor is designed with a special electronic temperature sensor. The digital display on the parent unit will immediately alert you if your baby’s room becomes too hot or too cold.

Talk Back, Nightlight, and Lullabies Help Sooth Your Baby
Sometimes all your fussing baby needs is the soothing sound of your voice to calm down. With one click of the DECT Baby Monitor’s Talk Back feature, you can connect with your baby from anywhere in your home. And for those times when your coos aren’t enough, you can use the baby unit to select one of five soothing lullabies that will invite sleep in no time. You can also help soothe and calm your little one with the warm tranquil glow of the night light that can be activated from the baby unit.

  1. When I first discovered that this unit had temp/humidity alarms, I was temped to monitor my basement where I brew beer, but I then remembered why I ordered this unit. Worry not, I didn’t put the baby in the basement with the beer to accomplish both aims, but the thought may have crossed my mind. The problem is that this unit does such a great job at monitoring sounds and sending them magically over with a clear crisp sound, so it would be a waste to just use the temp/humidity ability. So few monitors get this basic ability to send clear sound all wrong, so kudos to Philips for doing it right. The lullabies and light on the base is another plus, and before you know it, you’re wondering why you looked at anything else.

$100 is a lot, but it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.

  2. I was very disappointed in this monitor. We have a Philips AVENT SCD520 that is about 2 years old and it’s a wonderful product. So much so that when our second child was on the way we decided to get another Philips monitor so we could have one in each child’s room. We ordered the SCD525 thinking that it would be pretty much the same as the SCD520 — after all it’s just an updated version, and looks almost identical, right?

We have made a lot of use of the lullaby feature on the SCD520. It plays for about 15 minutes and then shuts off. On the SCD525, the lullaby plays for only about 3 or 4 minutes before shutting off. This is not nearly long enough — not many kids are going to be soundly asleep after only a few minutes most of the time. Also, unlike the crystal clear sound quality of our SCD520, the SCD525 had a significant buzz/hum (and yes I tried it with the other monitor shut off as well) — not what I’d expect from an expensive digital monitor. I called Philips customer service and they were very helpful. They agreed that the lullaby should play for more than a few minutes and sent me a replacement monitor.

Well, the replacement was exactly the same as the original, both in terms of the short lullaby and the poor sound quality. I called Philips again, and after waiting about 2 weeks for a response from higher-level tech support the word came back that the lullaby is only supposed to play for a few minutes — in other words, it’s a “feature.” Uh-huh. Sounds to me like they have a bug in the firmware. So I returned the replacement to Philips, the original to Amazon, and subsequently purchased the SCD530, with which I am very pleased (I didn’t buy that one in the first place because I didn’t need the hygrometer feature and wanted to save a little money).

Bottom line: the SCD520 and SCD530 are good products, the SCD525 not so much.
